CORROSION RESISTANCE COATING FOR WROUGHT IRON
ZINC METALLIZING IS A PROCESS WHICH MELTS ZINC AND THEN RAPIDLY PROPELS THE MOLTEN ZINC PARTICLES ONTO THE IRON SURFACE. IT IS A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE AND PROVEN METHOD OF CORROSION PREVENTION. WHEN A SCRATCH OCCURS ON PAINTED STEEL POCKETS OF RUST FORM. CORROSION PITS AND BLISTERS WILL CONTINUE TO GROW. MOST PROTECTIVE COATINGS FOR STEEL FUNCTION SOLELY BY ACTING AS A BARRIER BETWEEN THE STEEL AND THE CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENT. IF THESE BARRIERS ARE DAMAGED OR PENETRATED, (eg SCRATCHED), MOISTURE AND OXYGEN CAN REACH THE STEEL CAUSING RUST AND EVENTUALLY COATING FAILURE (eg PEELING). A ZINC METALLIZED COATING NOT ONLY OFFERS BARRIER PROTECTION, BUT IT WILL ALSO PROTECT THE STEEL GALVANICALLY BY SACRIFICIAL ACTION. IT WILL CORRODE IN PREFERENCE TO STEEL, CONTINUING TO PROTECT AS LONG AS ANY ZINC REMAINS IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA THE SURFACE ALSO PERMITS EXCELLENT ADHESION OF PIGMENTS AND ENAMELS. THE EFFECT OF THIS COMBINATION IS A SYNERGISTIC COATING WHICH WILL PROTECT THE UNDERLYING STEEL AND REQUIRE LITTLE TO NO MAINTENANCE FOR MANY YEARS. A SEALED, ZINC METALLIZED COATING CAN REALISTICALLY PROVIDE CORROSION PROTECTION FOR 15 TO 25 YEARS IN URBAN AND COASTAL AREAS. SEVERE ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS WILL NOT RUST STEEL PROTECTED BY A ZINC METALLIZED COATING.
